Requirements for Grid and Transfer/Photorealism

The image you chose should be a still life or landscape image. 

The still life image should have a simple background with little or no pattern.  The image should have light coming from one direction that shows the passage of light across the surface of the forms.

(Please do not choose and image of an entire room also called an interior. ) 

The image must be a photograph preferable out of a catalog such as Crate and Barrel, Ikea (get two catalogs and you will have a clean copy and a gridded copy.). 

You may use your computer or to paint from or to generate the image.

If you use a computer print out - it must be in photo mode on photo paper. 
 

Advanced Students will do master copies. 

Beginning students will do simple still life.

Master copies/photorealism
Bring in a full color reproduction of a master work that you will copy or a photograph. You can copy it either using grid and transfer or freehand drawing.

Working method for Painting Photorealism

Steps
1) Tone canvas with burnt umber and let dry
2) Put grid on photo
3) Put grid in graphite on canvas (light!)
4) Graphite underdrawing on canvas.
5) Premix and bag all colors
6) Paint
